Scarless Breast Reduction

Breast reduction by liposuction is a relatively new and innovative procedure. It depends on the fact that there is fat in the breast, some inherent elasticity in your skin, and not too large a size or sagging. Patients in this certain favorable category are excellent candidates for breast reduction by liposuction alone. Our patients call this scarless breast reduction because there are only a few very small incisions. Then there is removal of the fat by thin tubes (cannulas), and your skin shrinks down around the reduced fatty framework. There is no removal of your breast gland so your sensation and breast feeding functions are preserved.

THE PREOPERATIVE FEATURES

  • Enlarged, heavy, sagging breasts often associated with breast pain, shoulder pain, back pain, nipple numbness, and shoulder grooves from heavy bra straps.
  • Nipples are usually but not always below the breast crease.
  • Most of the breast volume is in the sagging lower portion of the breast.
  • Large or puffy nipples and areola.
  • Desire for a more youthful appearance to the breasts.
  • Desire for more comfortable, less painful breasts and better fit in clothing.

THE PROCEDURE

  • Special techniques of liposuction as it is applied to breast surgery are utilized. There is specific removal of excess fat in the breast while preserving the breast gland and the nerves and the blood vessels. Additional techniques are employed which promote contraction of the skin and molding down around a reduced size of breast gland.
  • General anesthesia can be used and it takes about one to two hours.
  • The only incision is very small and hidden in the crease below the breast.
  • There is no excess loose or hanging skin to deal with.
  • As the breast shrinks and skin contracts, it is moved to an overall higher and more youthful position on the chest wall.
  • The nipples and areola are elevated to a higher position and reduced in diameter to match the smaller breast size.
  • The only dressing is a surgical bra.
  • No drains are used.
  • This can be combined with other surgeries.

THE RECOVERY

  • You can go home after several hours.
  • You can shower on the second day after surgery.
  • Virtually none or only mild pain is experienced and this is easily controlled by medications.
  • Swelling is mild to moderate for the first week after which slowly resolves and is mostly gone over 5-6 weeks and completely disappears by about 6 months.
  • Some lumpiness which disappears in about six weeks.
  • Usually only very mild or no bruising.
  • Breasts are smaller and normally shaped right away and just get smaller and higher in time.
  • Resume many activities within the first week, and most by at least three weeks.
  • No stitches to remove.
  • Off of work for one to two days.

THE RESULT

  • Elevated, full, and beautiful size and shape to the breasts.
  • Very natural result that just gets better in time.
  • Full normal sensation and the ability to breast feed later.
  • Softness and natural bounce that persists.
  • Much better proportion and fit into clothing.
  • Ability to exercise and engage in strenuous activities much more comfortably.
  • Natural and presentable appearance right away that just gets better over the next three to six months.
