Nasal Revision SurgeryThere is a quite large population of patients that have had nasal surgery before and desire a revision to obtain a more natural or pleasing result. There are so many such patients and this is so super specialized, that I address this as a separate section of my practice altogether. I have seen many such patients, all with legitimate complaints about their nasal features that may range from subtle to quite severe. It is important and very reasonable to be concerned, and seek an opinion in this area. I am very interested in helping you and treating this problem.
Patients notice a variety of features and some may be subtle or severe in yours or mine opinions and we may agree on them or not. So, this is a condition where I always use computer imaging to make sure that we both see the same thing, and we see the same thin to the same degree. Patients commonly complain of a persisting “big ball” on the end of the nose, a hanging or drooping tip, an inverted V deformity, a polly-beak deformity, persisting hump on the top, a crooked nose, dents or bumps, difficulty breathing, watery discharge, or sinus problems. The anatomy of the nose is usually completely disrupted from its normal by the previous surgery. The framework of bone and cartilage is different, the overlying skin has more scar tissue underneath it and may be thick or thin, and there may be problems with the mucous membrane lining the nose and its function. The surgical plan includes a very thorough exam, computer images, detailed drawings of your anatomy, review of your old records, and an formulation of an exact surgery sequence. In the nose all these different anatomic features must be analyzed and addressed prior to your surgery. I will coordinate the features of your anatomy with your expectations, formulate a plan with you, and guide you through this. The planning, preparation, technique, and synchronization of yours and mine artistic visions are exquisitely important in revision rhinoplasty surgery and I take this very seriously with several visits, old photographs, old records and computer images, so that you can be provided with the best of all possible results. Surgery involves a light general anesthetic, performed where I do surgery, which is in a hospital setting. The surgery is safe and predictable and can take two to many hours. There is moderate swelling and very rare bruising after surgery. There are few small stitches, with return to work in as little as 5-7 days, and to some physical exercise in the second week. The surgical result relies on the fact that your skin will mold down around the artistically reshaped and remolded bone and cartilage framework.
I have great expertise in rhinoplasty and have performed many of these operations with very natural results that are not drastic or severe, and do not make you look different or like a different person, but softened, delicate, balanced, and elegant. I spend a great deal of time discussing your anatomy, doing computer imaging, making drawings, listening to your expectations, and interpreting for you what your anatomy and tissues will allow me to do in a safe and predictable way. In addition, I consider your body as a whole and I build a system into every nasal surgery that, initially, allows you to recover much quicker and, secondly, it serves to preserve your surgical results. This system includes a special diet, special attention to blood clotting, vitamins, supplements, skin products, physical training and knowing what to avoid. Together, all of this allows me to create results that are consistently very beautiful, quick to heal, exceptionally natural, and with minimal incisions, especially in the nose; an area of such major importance. I am delighted to surgically provide you with such profound yet natural nasal changes, and ones that have consistently so pleased my patients and changed their lives.
