THE PREOPERATIVE FEATURES

  • Comments about looking older, sad, or tired.
  • Excess skin, hooding, wrinkles, folds, heaviness, and the inability to apply makeup to the upper eyelids.
  • Excess skin, wrinkles, bags or puffiness to the lower eyelids.
  • Sagging "hound dog" drooping look to the corners of the eyes.
  • Occasional difficulty in vision when looking upward.

THE PROCEDURE

  • Local or general anesthesia can be used and it takes about two hours for both eyes.
  • In the upper eyelid an incision is made in the natural crease, excess skin is removed and the excess fat is removed.
  • In the lower eyelid the incision is made below the eyelashes or below the inside edge of the eyelid. Excess fat and skin is removed.
  • The muscles are tightened or lifted.
  • Wrinkles are removed at the same time by laser or chemical peel.
  • This can be combined with a facelift or forehead lift.

THE RECOVERY

  • You can go home after several hours.
  • You can shower on the second day after surgery.
  • Minimal pain that is mostly gone by the second or third day and easily controlled by medications.
  • Swelling which is mild to moderate and peaks at two to three days then disappears rapidly over the next three weeks.
  • Minimal bruising which is most at two days then disappears rapidly by three to five days.
  • Able to apply make-up in three to four days and comfortably appear in public at that time.
  • Resume many activities within the first week, and most by at least three weeks.
  • Stitches removed first at four days and the rest at ten days.
  • Off of work for three to four days.

THE RESULT

  • Very natural, rested, younger appearance.
  • Better vision and no more heaviness or discomfort to the eyelids.
  • Lasts the rest of your life and always looks better than if you didn't do it.
  • Natural and presentable appearance in the first week that just gets better over the next three to six months.
