Ear Reduction-Otoplasty

THE TYPICAL PATIENT

  • Desire for smaller, more natural appearing ears.
  • The desire for ears that do not stick out from the head.
  • Desire to eliminate the need to wear your hair down all the time or covering your ears.
  • Reduce the size of abnormally large ears or large earlobes.
  • Create more even appearance between your right and left ears.
  • Repair of long holes or divided earlobes from earring injuries.

THE PROCEDURE

  • Anesthesia is local, and the procedure is often done in the office and is very comfortable.
  • Occasionally the procedure may be done in the outpatient surgery center, depending on your anatomy.
  • The incision is very inconspicuous and located only in the depths of the crease behind the ear.
  • The procedure involves small incisions to reshape the cartilage gently and smoothly without any visible sharp edges or angles. Stitches hold the cartilage in position. Excess tissue is removed from inconspicuous incisions.
  • Sensation and ability to hear are maintained.
  • Dressings are light and worn for only several days.
  • This can be combined with other plastic surgical procedures.

THE RECOVERY

  • You can go home and resume normal light activities the same or next day.
  • You can shower on the next day after surgery.
  • There is only minimal pain that is mostly gone by the next day and usually does not require any medications.
  • Swelling is mild to moderate and peaks at two to three days then disappears rapidly over the next three weeks.
  • Minimal or no bruising is the usual.
  • The stitches are removed at seven days.
  • There is usually no need to be off work.

THE RESULT

  • Beautiful, balanced and proportioned result and contour.
  • Lasts the rest of your life and always looks better than if you didn't do it.
  • Natural and presentable appearance almost immediately that just continues to get better.
