Buffalo Hump Correction

There is a condition of excess fat accumulation in the back of the neck that is unusual and very disturbing to affected patients. It has become so common that I would like to dedicate this section to this problem. It is sometimes referred to lipodystrophy. The fat accumulation is called a Buffalo Hump deformity. It occurs mostly in patients with HIV on antiviral medications and can be very dramatic. It can also be associated with chronic steroid use such as in asthma patients. I see many affected patients and am very sympathetic to their extreme distress and desire to have the normal anatomy restored, wear a shirt that fits, and just be able to button their collar again. I would like to cure this for you.

Men and women alike can be affected by this. The most distressing feature is the fat accumulation of the lower neck/upper midline back. This fat excess can extend even further up the posterior neck, onto the back of the head and around the sides clear up to the ears. It can be severely immobilizing and profoundly unsightly. The anatomy of this condition is just excess fatty accumulation for whatever the reason. But, the problem is that it is fat that is in a hard area to liposuction, and trapped in a lot of scar and fibrous tissue that does not allow the fat to come out easily. Even faced with these challenges, I am still able to obtain incredibly thorough and natural results based on how I position you, the use of ultrasonic liposuction, and other technical and device related advances. Since this fatty area and all the contents is essentially on the surface, it is not closely related to muscle, tendon, bones, or other vital structures that hurt. Surgery involves a light general anesthetic, performed where I do surgery, which is in a hospital setting. The surgery is safe and predictable. There is a very mild swelling after surgery. There are only a few stitches, with return to work in as little as 3-5 days, and to some physical exercise in the first week. The surgical procedure and results in liposuction of the buffalo hump that I obtain are consistent and complete and are successful because I use the correct equipment, have you in the right position, and have a large experience with other patients like yourself.

Surgery to reduce the buffalo hump is very common in my practice. I have performed many of these procedures with consistently attractive and natural results. I have special expertise in this procedure and spend a great deal of time discussing your anatomy, listening to your expectations, and interpreting for you what your anatomy and body will allow me to do in a safe and predictable way. In addition, I build a system into every surgery that, initially, allows you to recover much quicker and, secondly, serves to preserve your surgical results. This system includes a special diet, vitamins, supplements, skin products, physical training and knowing what to avoid. Together, all of this allows me to create results that are consistently very beautiful, quick to heal, exceptionally natural, and with minimal incisions. I am delighted to surgically provide you with such a profound body image change, and one that has consistently so pleased my patients and changed their lives.
