Inverted Nipple Repair

Repair and correction of inverted nipples is a very common, yet challenging operation that can provide complete and permanent correction. It is a most satisfying operation to women that are afflicted with this condition. Over the years there has been dozens of operations to address inverted nipples. These have involved large unsightly incisions, using devices to stabilize or suction the nipple up, and lots of postoperative pain and care. The operation Dr. Romano performs does away with all of these. It is a very predictable operation done under a local anesthesia, with very small incisions on the nipple only, no hardware or devices needed, about one hour long, and provides a permanent and beautiful result.

THE TYPICAL PATIENT

• Desire for a more natural projecting appearance to the nipples.
• Focusing on how the nipples are flat and indented and do not stick out or enlarge as normal.
• This may also relate to small breast size and the desire for breast enhancement at the same time.

THE PROCEDURE

• Anesthesia is usually a local, or a very light general if it is combined with breast enlargement.
• The surgery takes about one hour.
• The incision is very inconspicuous and is located only at the nipple, not on the breast skin at all.
• The procedure involves releasing scar tissue and shortened milk ducts.
  No drains are used.
• Dressings are a light gauze or Band-Aid only.
• This can be combined with other plastic surgical procedures.

THE RECOVERY

• You can go home after several hours.
• You can shower on the next day.
• There is only minimal pain that is mostly gone by the next day and easily controlled by medications.
• Swelling is mild to moderate and peaks at two to three days then disappears rapidly over the next three weeks.
• Minimal or no bruising is the usual.
• You can resume most activities immediately.
• The stitches are removed at four days.
• You do not have to take time off of work.

THE RESULT

• Beautiful, balanced and proportioned contour with normal size and projection of the nipples.
• Normal sensation. You may or may not be able to breast feed.
