Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the condition where the remnant of the male breast gland is enlarged. This can very rarely be due to taking excessive hormones or hormone precursors. Often it is just an inherited condition that develops in puberty and then persists in later life. Excessive breast gland is often associated with excessive fat accumulation also. This condition is very successfully treated with the combination of ultrasonic liposuction combined with a small incision around the areola to remove the remnant of the male breast gland.

THE TYPICAL PATIENT

• A fullness in the male chest and breast area. This is usually fat but may also be some of the residual breast gland noted by firmness just below the nipple (gynecomastia). The fat or fullness may extend around the side to the edge of the pectoralis muscle and into the armpits.
• A desire for a flatter, more defined breast and chest shape.
• A desire for flatter and smaller nipples and areolae (pigmented areas of the nipple)

THE PROCEDURE

• Anesthesia is local or general, and the procedure may be done in the office or often in the outpatient surgical center and is very comfortable.
• It usually involves liposuction or excision of tissue with a small incision around the nipple, or both.
• The incision is very inconspicuous.
• Dressings consist of a light compression garment and worn for only several days, but can be worn longer.
• This can be combined with other plastic surgical procedures.

THE RECOVERY

• You can go home and resume normal activities within days.
• You can shower on the next day after surgery.
• Minimal or no pain.
• There is only minimal pain that is mostly gone by the next day and usually does not require any medications.
• Swelling is mild to moderate and peaks at two to three days then disappears rapidly over the next three weeks.
• Minimal or no bruising is the usual.
• The stitches are removed at seven days.
• There is usually no need to be off work.

THE RESULT

• Beautiful, balanced and proportioned result and contour.
• More confident and comfortable in clothing, especially tight tops and gym wear.
• Lasts the rest of your life and always looks better than if you didn't do it.
• Natural and presentable appearance almost immediately that just continues to get better.
