Dermabrasion & Skin ResurfacingSome of my most frustrated patients are those that come to me for skin textural issues, mostly related to old acne or scars, but also involving wrinkle lines, large pores, pigment spots and other skin surface problems. You have usually been to many doctors, tried many things, and want any kind of improvement. I know how you feel. There are many things that can be done for improving skin texture. I will help you with this.
The features of most concern to patients are textural irregularities such as wrinkle lines, large pores, age spots, blotches, unevenness, depressions, white shallow or deep scars, ice pick scars and pigmentation spots, usually as they relate to areas of former pustules and breakouts. The anatomy we are dealing with here is totally in the surface of the skin. This is the epidermis and dermis (the collagen layer of the skin). Therefore, it is skin surface procedures and interventions that make the most difference here, not deeper procedures like facelift. There are many, many factors that come into play here that must be addressed prior to your surgery. I will coordinate the features of your anatomy with your expectations, formulate a plan with you, and guide you through this. It will usually involve some aspects of skin care and vitamins at the least. The usual sequence for skin resurfacing involves:
Surgery for dermabrasion and the others surgeries mentioned above involves a relatively short procedure under a light general anesthetic, performed where I do surgery, which is in a hospital setting. The surgery is safe and predictable. All the stitches are dissolvable, with return to work in as little as 3 or as much as 10 days, depending on the depth of resurfacing required. You can return to some physical exercise within the first week. I counsel patients that usually a 40% to 60% improvement can be obtained, sometimes more.
I have expertise in dermabrasion and the other resurfacing techniques and will spend a great deal of time discussing your anatomy, listening to your expectations, and interpreting for you what your anatomy and tissues will allow me to do in a safe and predictable way. In addition, I consider your body as a whole and I build a system into every facial surgery that, initially, allows you to heal and recover much quicker and, secondly, it serves to preserve your surgical results. This system includes a special diet, special attention to blood clotting, vitamins, supplements, skin products, physical training and knowing what to avoid. Together, all of this allows me to create results that are consistently very beautiful, quick to heal, exceptionally natural, and with minimal incisions, especially in the face; an area of such major importance. I am delighted to surgically provide you with such profound yet natural facial image changes, and ones that have consistently so pleased my patients and changed their lives.
