Cheek Bone Reduction-Malarplasty
THE TYPICAL PATIENT
- Anyone with large prominent cheekbones ( malar bones, zygoma bones) that
desires reduction or smaller size, and better contoured cheekbones.
- This can be done to correct some unevenness from one side to the other.
THE PROCEDURE
- A small incision is placed about one inch long inside the mouth and a
space is made up and over the bones to be reduced.
- The excess cheekbone is reduced by grinding this down or making cuts in
the bone and removing enlarged pieces.
- A general anesthesia is used and you are completely asleep.
- The operation takes about two hours for both sides.
- You see your results within days after the swelling subsides, and then
this just gets better over time.
- No dressings, drains, or garments are needed.
- This can be combined with other plastic surgical procedures.
THE RECOVERY
- You can go back to work or your usual activities within several days.
- You can shower and wash the next day.
- There is moderate pain than improves quickly.
- Swelling is moderate and peaks at two days then disappears rapidly.
- Minimal or no bruising is the usual.
- There is some numbness on the cheeks that gets better over time.
THE RESULT
- Beautiful, balanced and proportioned width of the upper face compared to
the middle and lower part of the face.
- A more rounded straight contour to the face with less prominent
cheekbones.
