CanthoplastyThe usual comment I hear from patients that come to me concerned about a certain eye and eyelid shape is that they usually have undergone several surgeries; they just cannot figure out why “…something just does not look right” and that they have a sad or “hound dog” look. These are the hallmarks of a drooping outer corner of the eyelids and a perfectly good reason to want improvement in this elusive, yet very noticeable feature. I know how this is frustrating to my patients and I can help you with this.
The anatomy of the eyelids is understandably complex. There are an extraordinary number of small anatomic features all packed into a small space that must function perfectly otherwise as little as 1 millimeter can make the difference between perfect and horrible. The outer corner of the eye is in this category. The tendons of the upper and lower eyelids course along beneath the eyelashes and unite in a common tendon on the side that connects to the bone of the eye socket. If this is stretched or connected too low the eyelid looks sad and droopy. This is intimately associated with your other eyelid features so that there are many different anatomic features here that must be addressed prior to your surgery. I will coordinate the features of your anatomy with your expectations, formulate a plan with you, and guide you through this. There is a very specific technique to tighten, elevate, and reconnect this tendon at the bony edge of the eye socket, and this cures this problem. Surgery involves a relatively short procedure under a light general anesthetic, performed where I do surgery, which is in a hospital setting. The surgery is safe and predictable. All the stitches are dissolvable, with return to work in as little as 1-2 days, and to some physical exercise within the first week.
This is an extremely technical procedure and takes very special expertise to first accurately identify what is the nature of the eyelid corner droop, what are any associated features, and then what must be done carefully and artistically to correct it. I have this expertise in canthoplasty and spend a great deal of time discussing your anatomy, listening to your expectations, and interpreting for you what your anatomy and tissues will allow me to do in a safe and predictable way. In addition, I consider your body as a whole and I build a system into every facial surgery that, initially, allows you to recover much quicker and, secondly, it serves to preserve your surgical results. This system includes a special diet, special attention to blood clotting, vitamins, supplements, skin products, physical training and knowing what to avoid. Together, all of this allows me to create results that are consistently very beautiful, quick to heal, exceptionally natural, and with minimal incisions, especially in the face; an area of such major importance. I am delighted to surgically provide you with such profound yet natural facial changes, and ones that have consistently so pleased my patients and changed their lives.
