I find that women who seek breast reduction surgery really need it. Beyond basic proportional body image issues, other factors come into play such as back pain, breast pain, shoulder grooving and rashes. Any one of these complaints more than justifies the need to undergo this surgery. Like so many other breast procedures, breast reduction is associated with an extremely high satisfaction rate. I am amazed at the women I see of all different ages, but especially much older women who have suffered with this condition for years and finally realized that there is a safe and very artistic, aesthetic means to obtain a beautiful and natural and still fully functional reduction of the breasts with liposuction alone. Women seek this surgery to lift and reduce the breasts, alleviate symptoms, create a better shape, even up asymmetries in size and position, create a former and more youthful look, and to fit better in clothing. The breast and all the contents is essentially a surface structure of the female body. It is not closely related to muscle, tendon, bones, or other vital structures that may hurt when encountered in surgery. Therefore, surgery is comfortable. Some patients simply develop large oversized breasts. Other women experience stretching of skin over time and sagging from a heavy gland or massive weight loss and gains. So, the good news here is that in selected cases breast reduction can be performed by liposuction. This is a relatively new and innovative procedure. It depends on the fact that there is fat in the breast, some inherent elasticity in your skin, and not too large a size or sagging. Your nipples should be at or just slightly below the level of your breast crease for this to work. Patients in this certain favorable category are excellent candidates for breast reduction by liposuction alone. My patients call this scarless breast reduction because there are only a few very small incisions. Then there is removal of the fat by thin tubes (cannulas), and your skin shrinks down around the reduced fatty framework. There is no removal of your breast gland so your sensation and breast feeding functions are preserved. The surgery is safe and predictable. Virtually immediately after surgery you see your result and it just gets better in time. There are almost no stitches; the recovery is rapid, with return to work the next day, and to some physical exercise within the first week.
