Breast Augmentation Revision

Revision of breast augmentation procedures is one of the most popular procedures performed by Dr. Romano. There are many previous breast surgery conditions and outcomes that lend themselves to very predictable improvements. Previous surgeries that have resulted in misplaced implants, contracture, unevenness, hardness, rippling, and lack of roundness can all be improved with this surgery. Because the implant already in place has stretched the tissues and created a space, the breast augmentation revision surgery is almost always less painful with quicker recovery. Our office does many things to investigate and research the details of your previous surgery to prevent breast implant problems from occurring again.

THE BREAST IMPLANTS

• Saline or silicone implants may be used.  Your anatomy, concerns and priorities will help us determine which implants are best suited for you.
• The latest in technologies are utilized including all shapes (anatomic, teardrop, or round) and textures (smooth or fuzzy). These allow the doctor to customize your surgery to what your anatomy is and what you want.
• The many new types of implant fillers such as soybean are still experimental and are not yet approved by the FDA.

THE PREOPERATIVE FEATURES

• Patients that have breast implants already in place and are unsatisfied with the results.
• Breasts that are hard, distorted, painful, numb, or uneven on one side or both.
• Patients that are ashamed and frustrated with the appearance of their implants and breasts.
• Desire for a more natural, comfortable, proportioned and sensual body image.

THE PROCEDURE

• A very safe and predictable operation that is much less painful and involved than the original breast implant surgery.
• Local or general anesthesia can be used and it takes about two hours.
• The original incisions are used. No new incisions are created. The old incisions can usually be made better.
• The old implant is removed. The scar tissue capsule is removed. Any adjustments in the capsule are performed. Scar tissue around nerves is released if possible.
• A careful exam of the breast tissue is undertaken to make sure no abnormalities or ruptures are present.
• Temporary breast implant sizers are inserted in the space and inflated to the correct volume and adjustments are made, then the appropriate replacement implant is inserted. A bigger or smaller size can be inserted at this time.
• The only dressing is a surgical bra.
• No drains.
• This can be combined with other surgeries.

THE RECOVERY

• You can go home after several hours. This is a much more comfortable surgery than the original.
• You can shower on the second day after surgery.
• Only very mild pain is experienced for the first two days that is mostly gone by the third day and easily controlled by medications.
• You will feel groggy for the first two days and weak for about ten days.
• Swelling is mild for the first week after which it rapidly disappears.
• The breasts look better and very natural immediately, then continue to improve as the implants settle into a normal position and contour.
• Usually no bruising.
• Resume many activities within the first week, and most by at least three weeks.
• No stitches to remove. They are all dissolvable.
• Off of work for three to five days.

THE RESULT

• Improved soft, comfortable, and more even and balanced breast shape.
• Very natural result that just gets better in time.
• Softness and natural bounce that persists.
