Breast AsymmetryVirtually every woman has some degree of breast asymmetry. Some patients with profound asymmetry are fine, and others with very little difference are severely disturbed. I understand from my patients how they are tired of wearing inserts and hiding the asymmetry, and I also understand how this can really frustrate a lot of women. I would like to help you with this.
Breast asymmetry is often due to factors beyond the breast alone, such as rib cage shape and your chest muscle anatomy. But just as often, it is purely in your breast anatomy and one breast is simply very different from the other. Breast asymmetry may involve difference in size and volume, or difference is shape and amount of skin, difference in the amount and the distribution of the breast gland, and differences in the size, shape, and level of one nipple and areola as compared to the other. All of these aspects of asymmetry can be corrected by surgery, and the unevenness improved. The procedure may involve either lifting and tightening, adding an implant, subtracting tissue from the larger breast, or evening the nipple and areolae from side to side. This all depends on your anatomy and expectations. Surgery involves a relatively short procedure under a light general anesthetic, performed where I do surgery, which is in a hospital setting. The surgery is safe and predictable. Virtually immediately after surgery you see your result and it just gets better in time. The recovery is rapid, with return to work in several days, and to some physical exercise within the first week. All the stitches are dissolvable. Recovery and return to most activity is within days.
Surgery to correct asymmetry of the breast is very common in my practice. I have special expertise in this procedure and spend a great deal of time discussing your anatomy, listening to your expectations, and interpreting for you what your anatomy and body will allow me to do in a safe and predictable way. In addition, I build a system into every surgery that, initially, allows you to recover much quicker and, secondly, serves to preserve your surgical results. This system includes a special diet, vitamins, supplements, special garments and breast exercises, skin products, physical training and knowing what to avoid. Together, all of this allows me to create results that are consistently very beautiful, with quick healing, minimal scarring and a very natural appearance, especially in an area of such great importance to women. Even though patients occasionally tell me they think this condition is trivial, it is clearly a high priority or you would not be reading this. I am delighted to surgically provide you with such a profound body image change, and one that has consistently so pleased my patients and changed their lives.
